travel guide for halki greece

How to reach ..

You go to  Rodos Airport from many international airports and then  you  reach Halki by ferry . There are ferries from the central port of Rhodes 2 times per week ( Prevelis – 8 euros per trip and Dodekanisos seaways -17 euros per trip )  , or you can go to Kamiros port where from the ferries go to Halki 3 times per day ( 11 euros per trip )  . Contact Halki Port Authority (0030 22460 45220) for up-to-date information.

Where to stay ?

The island has got one hotel called ” ARETANASSA  “( 80-100 euro per night ) and a lot other beautiful properties by the sea . Take a look at “Halki Lodge” and “Villa Praxithea” .

Best time to visit ..

Late August and September is the best time to visit Halki . July and early August is kind of crowded (well as much as Hakli could ever be!) so , if you are looking for a some quiet , September is the best option for you .

Must-visit spots ..

The Castle and Saint John’s monastery .

What's our favorite food spots ?

“Black sea” restaurant and “Blue Marine” caffe .

Where to take best instagrams ?

Walking down the small roads of the island you will find so many amazing spots to take the most amazing instagram pics !

Favorite places to shop ..

No shopping . In the island you won’t find any stores with clothes or shoes only food and some souvenirs .

What to wear ..

Only swimsuits , kaftans and generally only beachwear . Every time I get clothes with me they just come back without being worn .

So , this week  we are finally going to talk about Halki . You have probably  seen a lot of posts and stories on our instagram about Halki . My grandmother is from this island and she has a house by the sea there , so I spend most of my summers there !

Halki is a very small island  50 minutes by ferry from Rodos .  Colorful houses , crystal clear waters and charming beaches will give you the best and most quiet vacation of your life . The island’s port is built in the central settlement , Emporeio . Most of the properties and villas are located there . Three beaches of the island are reachable on foot or by car , Pontamos , Ftenagia and Kania .Pontamos is a sandy beach , perfect for those who love lying all day on the sand . You can go there on foot , its about 10 minutes from the port or far less by bus , it costs  2,5 euros .Kania is a very beautiful beach full of sun beds and a cantine where you can enjoy fresh fish and traditional greek food . I suggest you to take the mini bus to get there because the distance is quite big .Also there are a lot of more fascinating beaches, like  Trahia, in the island but you can reach them with a boat only .

The thing I love the most about Halki is the bakery ! Omg , you guys have to taste the chocolate croissant and then you’ll know what I’m talking about. You have to try it , its so delicious  !

If you need some time off , Halki is the perfect destination for you . It’s a tiny , traditional greek island full of beauty , I can’t imagine something better after an exhausting working season , can you ?

Hope you like it

xoxo
